According to the latest figures released by The Conference Board Help-Wanted Online Data SeriesTM, new
online job postings were up a healthy 33% in January 2006, exceeding levels last seen in the summer months. Experts claim that this upward spike reflects greater consumer confidence and renewed optimism in the
current job market.
From a regional perspective, the greatest increases in month-over-month ad volume were experienced in New England (40%) and West South Central (37%), while the Pacific and Mountain regions lagged behind at 31% and 30%, respectively.
At the metropolitan level, Denver emerged as the clear-cut winner with 3.44 job ads per 100 persons, followed closely by San Francisco (3.21), San Diego (3.12) and Seattle (3.03). The figures were lower, but no less impressive on the East Coast with Boston (2.97) and Washington D.C. (2.93) rising to the top. Detroit and Rochester, NY were the only metropolitan areas that failed to achieve one ad per 100 persons in the labor force. Assuming this upward trend continues, the future looks promising for companies and job seekers alike.
