Flex This Way

27 MILLION AMERICANS FLEX THIS WAY
In a busy work week, how do so many people find time to play golf in the middle of the week, or have time to be a zoo Mom on their child’s field trip? They may be the more than 27 million people who work flexible schedules allowing them to vary the time they start and end their workdays. More and more, employers are recognizing and accommodating the need for flexible work schedules.

Nights Turn Into Days
Are you a night owl? Companies who do business overseas often require overnight hours, usually starting between 10 p.m. and midnight and finishing around 7 a.m. Advantages to workers include not having to deal with traffic and saving bundles in childcare costs.

Still other workers arrive before the sun comes up, like 5:30 a.m., but leave as early as 2 p.m. They are able to be home when their kids come home from school and many parents find it gives them time to coach their kids’ sports teams.

Longer Hours Lead to More Time For Yourself
Before you complain about working 12-hour days, consider this: many employers offer extended hour shifts. Workers who put in 10 hour days work four days a week and get off 3. If a company offers 12 hour shifts, you’ll probably work 3 days one week and 4 days the next. Many people use the extra days off to pursue other things that interest them like working on a master’s degree.

Flex Time Fits Working Moms & Dads
If you have children, imagine working four longer days during the week and one shortened workday. Employees are allowed to flex their time as they choose during the week, making it very easy to make a doctor’s appointment or meet with a teacher. And since most parents are up early, they can get going early and don’t have to worry about rushing home, cooking and putting the baby to bed. They actually have family time before the nighttime routine has to start
