Position Title: Sorter

Direct Supervisor: Shift Lead(s), Sort Supervisor, On-site Manager

Main Functions:

The sorter separates and sorts printed material and small packages by reading alpha and numerical codes.

Pay rate: $13.02 an hour

Work Conditions:

  •  Schedule is for Saturday.
  •  Hours from 10am to 5:00pm.
  •  Depending on shift span, up to one half hour unpaid break and two paid fifteen-minute breaks are allotted.


  •  Manual handling of printed material and small packages throughout the sorting area.
  •  Performs manual sorting, bundling and manipulation or printed material or other mailing products.
  •  Promptly communicates shortage of supplies needed to complete job, such as tubs and tags.
  •  Removes all old labels from tubs and sacks.
  • Places full tubs with sorted mail on numbered skids.
  •  Places full sacks of mail in front of designated numerical gaylord.
  •  Prepares gaylords and other bins for sorting mail, labels accordingly.
  •  Transfers pallets throughout warehouse utilizing a pallet jack.
  • Ensures compliance with established policies and procedures, including but not limited to:
  •  TSA, Challenge Procedure, Restricted Items & Reward Program
  •  Performs any other duties as directed by the Sort Supervisor and/or On-Site Manager.


  •  High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  •  Previous mail or parcel handling experience preferred.
  •  Must have excellent hand/eye coordination.
  •  Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  •  Manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  •  Cognitive ability to proficiently sort items based on numeric sequence and other logical characteristics.
  •  Ability to bend, stoop and occasionally lift to 40 pounds individually or 60 pounds in a team lift.
  •  Ability to follow directions, work fast paced and multi-task.
  •  Punctual, detail orientated and reliable.
