Job Description
Responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing diesel-powered vehicles and machinery, to include military equipment/vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment, by performing maintenance tasks, identifying mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and replacing or repairing malfunctioning parts to ensure proper vehicle operation. Duties often include routine maintenance like oil changes, checking fluid levels, and tire rotations, as well as more complex repairs to engine components, transmissions, braking systems, and electrical systems.
Key responsibilities:
Vehicle inspection:
Thoroughly examine diesel vehicles to identify potential issues with engines, brakes, steering, transmission, and other mechanical components.
Diagnostic testing:
Utilize diagnostic equipment to read fault codes, analyze engine performance, and pinpoint the source of mechanical problems.
Repair and maintenance:
Perform repairs including replacing worn parts, adjusting engine settings, fixing leaks, and performing routine maintenance like oil changes and fluid level checks.
Part replacement:
Order and install necessary replacement parts for engines, transmissions, brakes, and other vehicle systems.
Test driving:
Test drive vehicles after repairs to ensure proper functionality and identify any remaining issues.
Documentation:
Maintain detailed repair records, including parts used, labor hours, and customer information.
Troubleshooting:
Analyze complex mechanical problems and develop effective repair strategies.
Skills and qualifications:
Technical knowledge: In-depth understanding of diesel engine mechanics, including fuel systems, electrical systems, and emission controls.
Diagnostic skills: Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and interpreting test results
Mechanical aptitude: Strong hand-on skills with tools and ability to disassemble and reassemble complex mechanical components
Problem-solving abilities: Capability to diagnose malfunctions, identify root causes, and develop repair solutions
Physical stamina: Ability to lift heavy parts, work in tight spaces, and stand for extended periods
Attention to detail: Meticulous approach to ensure all repairs are completed accurately
