Flatbed Dispatcher




Responsible for supervising 3+ flatbed drivers; developing and dispatching drivers’ schedules; and ensuring efficient delivery of goods within time constraints while providing excellent customer service.





  • Supervise Flatbed Drivers’ work performance. Monitor and manage Flatbed Drivers’ personnel activities and adherence to Company’s policies and procedures, such as attendance, safety guidelines, disciplinary action, scheduling, vacation requests, sick calls, etc.
  • Create delivery schedule for all drivers’ routes and revise based on priority throughout the course of the day.  Ensure maximum efficiency of resources based on number of drivers and drivers’ hours of service available as well as customers’ needs and requests. Coordinate, monitor and track drivers’ stops, utilizing analog and/or digital tracking system to ensure timely delivery.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.  Reconcile and reschedule missed deliveries.  Be capable of quoting services, answer phone and email inquiries.
  • In the case of driver shortage or high influx of work within other departments, coordinate with respective dispatchers to schedule drivers for coverage.  Emphasize and encourage drivers to be team players and aid respective departments in order to achieve Company goals.
  • Frequently observe and verify loading of freight and monitor inventory to assist department in minimizing damages, losses, and claims.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings for drivers.  Inspect vehicles for safety and maintenance.  Research accidents and claims.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the PWD Operations Manager and PWD General Manager.






  • Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent



  • 1 year of freight/transportation background
  • 3 years of Management/Supervisory experience or equivalent
  • Have a working knowledge of software applications:
    • MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, Google Maps
  • Be familiar with Oahu streets and geographical locations
  • Be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills in dealing with all levels of employees, vendors and clients
    • Ability to persuade and negotiate terms with staff, vendors and clients
    • Ability to deal with frustrated customers to remedy concerns
  • Possess excellent decision-making skills with quick responsiveness to customers
  • Strong understanding of risk management






  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Administration



  • 1 year of truck driving experience (examples: CDL-A, CDL-B, tractor, flatbed)
  • 3 years of dispatching experience
  • Be able to manage people and give direction to complete tasks on time and accurately
  • Knowledge of vehicular maintenance and/or operating equipment, i.e., forklifts, tractors
  • CPR and First Aid certified




  • Required to complete multiple priorities with time-sensitive deadlines
  • Work under minimal supervision and high-pressure environments
  • Apply logic and reasoning to solve complex problems
  • Use sound judgment and discretion in performing work duties and working cooperatively with others
  • Must be flexible and adapt to change
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Requires long periods of sitting at a desk, frequent computer use and speaking with various individuals via phones and push to talk
  • Requires lifting 25 lbs, bending, climbing in and out of tractors
  • Understand and enforce Company’s safety program.





  • Primarily indoors, air-conditioned office with parts of the day spent on loading dock/shipyard.





  • Monday – Friday, 6:30a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • May require working overtime, on weekends and holidays per direction of PWD Operations Manager and PWD General Manager.
